Overview

Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) is Australia’s leading research data infrastructure facility,  accelerating Australian research and innovation by driving excellence in the creation, analysis and retention of high-quality data assets.

With this redesign project, my objective is to enhance the visual aesthetics and user experience of the entire website in alignment with the provided brand guidelines. Emphasizing accessibility is a key priority, and the goal is to seamlessly integrate the new design with the existing wealth of rich and complex data on the web. The overarching goal is to ensure a smooth merger of all data while adopting a block-building custom approach within WordPress, leveraging its editor process.

Delivery

With the provided branding and a focus on Accessibility as the primary objective, I have maintain my design file by:

  • Set up UI kit and style guide to maintain the consistency of overall we, ensuring that the colors adhere to WCAG 2.0 and higher standards.
  • Base on the old we,  I utilized it for the integration of data
  • Define variants of the block builder to showcase all possible use casesTesting to make sure the design is fully implement
  • Content populated to verify the functionality of the blocks within the editor.

When evaluating the existing website, it comes to mind that they will be many information and content types that need to be conveyed, the website needs consistency and also distinguishing of other content types and information (news, resources,...)

Our agency proposes a tailored solution: creating a custom website with blocks. This approach addresses editing challenges by incorporating dynamic and flexible blocks, ensuring consistency across the site for any editor. The challenge lies in determining which blocks to use and the appropriate options for each.

Content Strategy

We will utilize the data and insights gathered from the primary user research conducted in the discovery phase to develop a data-driven content strategy aligned with audience needs. Additionally, we will set up a collection system to store and link related data. Finally, we will implement an SEO-forward content strategy, incorporating SEO techniques in crucial features and articles, particularly focusing on areas where lead generation is priority

I begin by examining the site map and the content inherited from the old site. After structuring the home page, our next step involves defining content types and page templates. Subsequently, we proceed to specify the blocks that will collectively shape the entire website, meaning that every other page will be constructed using these predefined blocks.

ARDC redesign project is my fist time experience the building block concept to visual all page, also expand my work to other role and learn more than just design

  • When testing the site, I closely collaborated with the development team, gaining insights into their coding style to better align it with the design.
